As you can see lettuce contains a hint of sugar, fat and calcium, but is quite acidic and contains a huge amount of water content which is not good as far as gerbils are concerned.

This means that unfortunately they can’t eat lettuce at all. It is too full of water and will give them diarrhea if they eat it as they can’t handle the water that lettuce contains.

If they nibble on it, they should be fine but it isn’t a food that should be fed purposely to them. This includes all varieties of lettuce.
