White oats, otherwise known as oatmeal are oat groats or grains which have been ground, crushed, rolled, or steel cut. It is also called ‘oatmeal’ in the United States and in parts of Canada.
They are often eaten in raw by animals and are often seen by many as a good food for rodents to chew on.
It is often eaten by adding hot water or milk to eat and stirring until it reaches a substance which is edible.
So can gerbils eat oatmeal at all?
Yes they can the raw oats in small amounts. It holds no nutritional value for them though, so there are better foods for them to eat. Cooked oatmeal or porridge however, is not so good for them and is better avoided.
