Seaweed refers to the marine algae that is often found washed up on beaches. It is a favorite food especially in the far east where it is eaten dry and coated in seasoning.
So can gerbils eat seaweed?
Unfortunately they can’t as it is far too salty for them. Gerbils can only have a little salt in the foods as their bodies cant process it like we can. The amount of salt that seaweed has is huge and is not good for them at all. It will make them ill if they eat a lot of it.
This makes seaweed a food to avoid as far as gerbils are concerned.
