Only eggs are necessary to make scrambled eggs, but salt and pepper are often used, and other ingredients such as water, milk, butter, chives, cream or in some cases crème fraîche or grated cheese may be added. (source)
They are an extremely popular type of cooked eggs and are cooked like this the world over.
So given their solidity and texture, are scrambled eggs the type of eggs that gerbils can eat if they take a fancy to them?
Can gerbils eat scrambled eggs?
Yes, they can as long as it is cool and doesn’t have any seasoning on it.
If it is hot, they will walk away from it and it will obviously hurt them.
Don’t let them have too much though, just a small piece will do fine for them.
Just a little placed on their plate will be enough and they will enjoy eating it.
Too much will actually hurt their stomach as too much dairy is not good for them.
It shouldn’t be fed to them as part of their staple diet, merely just a treat.
Treats are great for gerbils but just like for us, they shouldn’t be eaten all of the time.
What other types of egg can gerbils eat?
Gerbils can eat boiled egg as well. This is because it is solid and they are able to eat and digest it properly. Make sure it is cool and has been chopped up for them. Again, it is a good treat for them.
A poached egg can also be fed to them as long as the yolk has been hardened and is not runny.
However, they can’t eat fried egg as it is too coated in fat. Too much fat in foods is not good for them and should be avoided.
What should a gerbil’s staple diet look like then?
A well-balanced diet is essential for gerbils. It should contain the nutrients and minerals that they need consisting of a compound pellet ration or a mix of different seeds. Good gerbil pellets or mix is designed to meet their nutritional requirements. Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions for how much feed them.
This should be supplemented by a selection of veggies and fruit.
